A new vision for the Whistler Public Library will be the focus of a discussion Thursday, Nov. 2 at the library. Visits to the facility have doubled this year from previous levels, but the library can only remain in its present portable premises until 1999. On Oct. 14 the Whistler Public Library board met with Gordon Yusko of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs’ Library Services Branch to discuss the first step in planning for a new library building. Librarian and architect Bill Mitchell also provided input. Mitchell oversaw the building and now the management of Surrey’s Fleetwood Library, which opened this past summer. The library’s mission is to build a strong community. To that end, the library provides access to a broad variety of reference material, including books, CDs, videos and Internet access. As well, the library provides programs for pre-schoolers, students and adults. Thursday’s meeting, at 7 p.m., is open to all.
