Council OK staff housing for Lot 23 space for 22 employees As long as they remain strictly for staff rental, council allowed employee housing plans for Lot 23 — the construction project on the north corner of the main entrance to Whistler Village — to go to third reading. Construction on the project is just getting started. Appia developments, however, wants to raise the municipality’s affordable housing initial sale rate of $150 a square foot to $225 because it says construction costs are beyond the lower amount. The 22 employees residing in the staff housing component would pay $500 a month in rent for each bedroom. Two of the three units in the development will have four bedrooms. The third unit will have three bedrooms. Some of the bedrooms will accommodate more than one tenant. By getting to the third reading phase of the proposal, the municipality is authorized to enter into a housing agreement to control the use of the units for employees only, and restrict the rental rates and resale prices.
