ARC'TERYX Equipment Inc., the Canadian outerwear company, was bought by Salomon last week, although details of the financial terms were not released. Founded in 1991, the Vancouver-based ARC'TERYX specializes in technical outerwear and layering systems. With this purchase Salomon is hoping to expand its presence in North America as well as develop its technical apparel business.

The North Shore Credit Union (NSCU), Whistler's first financial institution, recently received an award of excellence in the "Customer Care" category. The 2001 national Canadian Productivity Awards were handed out in Toronto last month. The award recognized NSCU's Customer Relationship Management software, which provides financial solutions tailored to each customer's needs.

Over $11,000 was raised for Whistler Search and Rescue at the Nov. 10 dinner at the Garibaldi Lift Company. Chef Bernard Casavant with the help of his wife Bonnie and Whistler Search and Rescue volunteers, prepared the five-course dinner. This year some of the proceeds will be donated to the New York City, September 11 th , Fire Department Fund.

The North Shore Credit Union golf tournament, held at the Pemberton Valley Golf Course in September, raised $6,560. There were 130 participants in the tournament and the funds were split evenly between two beneficiaries –Whistler Search and Rescue and the Pemberton Fire Department.

Random spot checks for valid mountain passes have started on the mountains in an effort to curb the amount of illegal skiers and snowboarders. Whistler-Blackcomb will be implementing the checks on the upper mountain lifts as well as those in the valley. Validation in the mid-mountain will be random and will rotate between lifts and mountains.

Paradata Systems Inc., founded in 1993 and headquartered in Whistler, has received notice that it is fully compliant with Visa Canada's standards in its Account Information Security Program (AIS Program). Paradata provides industry leading Global Integrated Payment Systems and services. The AIS program is designed to evaluate the security of cardholder data and the risks involved within the payments environment. According to Visa Canada, Paradata is the first service provider in Canada to complete Visa's AIS Program.
