The Whistler Public Library and Sea to Sky Community Services will receive some of the funds raised at next week’s seventh annual Felix Belczyk RMCC Ski Challenge on Blackcomb. The corporate event includes a day of coaching with current and former national ski team members on April 2, followed by a ski race on April 3. Receptions and meals are also included. Organizers hope to reach the $3 million mark in funds raised for Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities of Canada at next week’s event. Other RMCC Ski Challenges are hosted by Todd Brooker at Craigleith Ski Club in Collingwood, Ont., Lucie LaRoche at Mont Tremblant and Karen Percy Lowe at Norquay in Banff. The second Owens Corning Ski Challenge will be on Whistler Mountain April 17-19. The event is part of Quarterback Month for Kids Help Phone across Canada. The Kids Help Phone is a national, bilingual 1-800 number for troubled and abused children and teens. It operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week providing confidential, professional counselling. More than 4,000 calls a day are make to the Kids Help Phone but due to limited resources two out of every three calls receives a busy signal. In an average month, 6,000 B.C. children call from 160 different communities. During April the Kids Help Foundation is encouraging Canadians to donate change to the phone line. Whistler Mountain will have more than 20 coin boxes on the mountain all month. The Owens Corning Ski Challenge is a corporate event in which members of Canada’s national alpine and freestyle teams coach their teams through mogul and race courses.
