Big payback at the Fish Stop the presses, or don’t press that computer key or something like that. Thursday, Oct. 8 is payback time at Maxx Fish. From 9 p.m. onwards you can re-balance your karma by coming out in support of Dan the Trail Man. If at any point during this past long hot summer you’ve found yourself riding A River Runs Through It or Shit Happens or Industrial Disease or approximately 60 per cent of Whistler’s trails, then you’ve been party to Dan’s handiwork. The long term local has put his own money into the bush, in the form of tools and gas for the chainsaw, as well as his time. The bike companies of Whistler are all joining in to see that he gets the gratitude he deserves. For a $5 cover charge you can join in to pay your respects as well as getting in the mix for door prizes. There are already juicy prizes lined up but organizers say if anyone wants to donate more they will be happy to accept with the full understanding that Whistler businesses get hit on a lot. Mountain Winter Sports Show The 1998 Mountain Winter Sports Show will be taking place at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. Presented by the Vertical Reality Sport Show, the event will feature a slide show called blast from the past. This will be followed by a fashion show of locally made clothing from the Vertical Reality winter line. Labels on show include Prana, Tilley Endurables and Moira Wear. There will also be a presentation of the latest mountaineering slides covering Coastal Ice, the Yukon and Baffin Island taken by Jia Condon, Rich Prohaska and John Chilton.
