Pemberton holding logo contest

Current logo hard to reproduce

The Village of Pemberton (VOP) is calling on local artists and community members to help brand the community. A new logo is required, and seeing the success the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) had last year with its contest, the VOP has decided to follow suit.

“The current logo — although people love it — is hard to reproduce,” said Lori Pilon, VOP chief administrative officer.

An example of that difficulty was realized earlier this year when the VOP decided to create a promotional lapel pin to commemorate the 50 th anniversary of the community’s incorporation. Using the existing logo, a painting of Mt. Currie by local artist Karen Love, would have meant a per pin cost of more than $2.50. A pin featuring a simplified logo was produced for approximately a fifth of the price.

In a report to council, Pilon cited the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) logo as being highly effective.

“It is simple and versatile; is easily produced in any size or colour, and even without text the graphic is recognizable as representing the RMOW,” wrote Pilon.

Full contest details will be released later this month. Current plans call for a closing date of Sept. 27, with the winning selection announced the following week. The VOP plans to implement the new logo on all materials by January 2007.
