Seniors and elders in the Pemberton Valley may have an easier time getting around with the introduction of a pilot project that began this month.
The Village of Pemberton, in conjunction with the Mount Currie/Lil’Wat Nation and the Pemberton Valley Seniors Society, received a grant of $35,000 to offer a transportation service for seniors and elders in the valley.
The service, called ElderGO!, is available on three scheduled bus routes that range from Pemberton Meadows Road to Anderson Lake.
Those who wish to use the ElderGO service are asked to pre-book their seats so drivers know which riders to expect along the route. The service is free for anyone 55 years of age or older.
The first bus route is expected to service Pemberton Meadows and include stops at the Health Centre, Lion’s Villa and the intersection of Hurley and Pemberton Meadows Road. The second route is expected to service the Mount Currie area and the town’s main street, as well as Pemberton Plateau and the Pemberton Village Centre.
The third route, serving areas such as D’Arcy and Birken, is expected to stop at Heritage Park, as well as Birken, Mount Currie and Pemberton Village Centre.
The service will run until January of 2009.
