Provincial parks on the North Shore and in the Sea to Sky corridor will receive an additional $845,000 for upgrades this summer, with money going to upgrade infrastructure and improve camping and day use areas for visitors.
West Vancouver-Garibaldi MLA Joan McIntyre made the announcement on Sunday to coincide with the Victoria Day long weekend.
The list of upgrades includes:
• $350,000 to build a new day use area at Brandywine Falls Provincial Park;
• $385,000 for water system design and construction at Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park;
• $50,000 for water upgrades at Alice Lake Provincial Park;
• $10,000 for water system upgrades at Porteau Cove Provincial Park;
• $40,000 for a high view lookout at Cypress Provincial Park;
• $10,000 for improvements to the water system at Shannon Falls Provincial Park.
The funding is part of the province’s budget of $14 million for park improvements this year.
In April, the province also expanded Sea to Sky parks by more than 135 hectares to protect species and enhance the visitor experience. Some of the land was purchased back from private owners.
