Council will not be considering the zoning bylaws of the Rainbow project at its next meeting.
Developers had hoped to see the project before council at Monday’s council meeting (Jan. 23) and encouraged residents to attend that meeting in two full-page advertisements in Pique Newsmagazine and The Question.
This week municipal staff again reiterated that the project will take time, particularly because under the current business plan the municipality and its wholly owned subsidiary, the Whistler Housing Authority, would be assuming an almost $12 million risk.
"We need to be sure that the risks we are taking are justified," said Bob MacPherson, general manager of planning and development.
"The municipality is committed to providing resident housing to maintain 75 per cent of our workforce in Whistler, but we must continue to act in the best interests of the resort community as a whole."
Staff will be providing an update of the project at Monday’s council meeting.
