The seventh annual Squamish Triathlon: A Memorial to Bob McIntosh, sold out in record time this week, with 400 individuals and teams taking on a popular course that includes a 1,500 metre swim in Alice Lake, a 40 km ride along Squamish Valley Road and a 10 km trail run.
The race, which takes place on Sunday, July 11, requires several road closures and delays after the 9 a.m. start.
Alice Lake Provincial Park – The north parking lot by the beach area will have limited access from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday morning. The public will not be able to enter or exit the park from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to allow the cyclists to pass by.
Highway 99 – The highway will be closed north and south at the Alice Lake Provincial Park Intersection from approximately 9:20 a.m. to 9:40 a.m. for the bike leg. There will be periodic delays from 9:40 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. to let slower groups through.
Squamish Valley Road and Upper Squamish Valley Road – There will be limited access from approximately 9:20 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Government Road from Axen Road to Squamish Valley Road – This route is closed to all traffic from approximately 10:25 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Ross Road by Brackendale Secondary School – Limited access from 10:14 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Depot Road from railway crossing to Highway 99 – Runners on the road from approximately 10:20 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Squamish Triathlon organizers apologize for any inconvenience caused by these closures and delays.
