One man’s junk is another man’s treasure, literally.
The Rotary Club of Whistler Millennium is collecting used cell phones to raise money for charitable foundations.
It is estimated that thousands of old or broken cell phones are discarded in Canada every day. The phones can be recycled or refurbished for those in need of a phone for 911 emergencies or communications.
Cell phones and cell phone batteries also contain toxins and should not be discarded into landfills.
All cell phones, regardless of age or condition, will be accepted. Please include your battery, charger and manual, if available, when turning in your phone.
Phones can be turned in at Whistler Audio Visual at Nesters Plaza or Function Junction, the Whistler Question office, Boston Pizza at Creekside, or Pemberton Cellular.
"We’re very excited about this opportunity," said Stephanie Matches, president of the Rotary Club of Whistler Millennium. "It not only greatly benefits our charitable donation opportunities, but assists in preserving the environment and bringing communications to those who could otherwise not afford it."
