Housing for seniors in Whistler may finally be on the horizon in three new developments, but there are still concerns about aging in place here.
In a recent in-depth questionnaire, members of the Mature Action Committee (MAC) highlighted their concerns that there was no health care specialist in Whistler to address seniors' needs, no nursing care facilities here and no home support network for seniors.
The more than 100 respondents said they were not planning to retire in Whistler but they could if it was more affordable.
It has members asking: can all seniors retire in our community or is it just for the healthy and wealthy? And if the community was more "age friendly" would more people stay?
Those questions and others will be part of MAC's seniors' forum on Monday, Nov. 23 at MY Millennium Place.
The meeting will include more information on the Seniors Needs Assessment Focus Group and will have panel members on hand to discuss seniors issues. Representing the physicians group is Dr. Hugh Fisher. There will also be representatives from the Resort Municipality of Whistler and Whistler Community Services Society.
The meeting will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
