What: SPARKS, BROWNIES AND GUIDES Whistler Girl Guides have moved to a new night of the week. Sparks (age 5 and 6), Brownies (age 7 and 8) and Guides (ages 9-12 are asked to meet Wednesdays at Spring Creek Community School, while Trex (ages 12-17 will meet on a biweekly basis, but date has yet to be determined.

When: Wednesday evenings starting September 17

What: INAUGURAL MR. GAY CANADA COMPETITION Whistler is playing host to the first Canada-wide search for Mr. Gay Canada. The purpose is to identify people who take the responsibility to speak out for equal rights on a global stage.

When: Thursday September 18 to Sunday September 21

Where: Fairmont Chateau Whistler

What: VANCOUVER CANUCKS TRAINING CAMP B.C.’s beloved (and reviled) hockey team heads to Whistler for training camp. Witness promising prospects such as Cody Hodgson and Michael Grabner grace the ice, and see Roberto Luongo’s new do!

When: Saturday September 20 to Sunday September 21

Where: Meadow Park Sports Centre

What: PEMBERTON CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP All are welcome to worship alongside other Sea to Sky Christians as part of a service in Pemberton. It’s also a chance to come out and enjoy the new Pemberton Community Centre.

When: Sundays, 10:30 a.m.

Where: Pemberton Community Centre

What: RCMP SEA TO SKY REGIMENTAL BALL RCMP officers from all over Canada gather at this annual event to raise funds for Cops for Cancer. Event will include silent auction, live music, piping, a traditional grand march, and, of course, dancing with officers in red serge.

When: Saturday September 20, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Westin Resort and Spa

What: ARTWALK WEEKEND VISUALS, The Squamish Valley Artists Society, hosts a weekend where you get to meet over 30 artists on a self-guided tour. Learn the inspiration behind their works, see demonstrations and you get an opportunity to purchase the art directly from artists.

When: Saturday September 20 to Sunday September 21, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Where: Squamish, B.C., see the ArtWalk Guide at the Squamish Adventure Centre

What: COPS FOR CANCER TOUR DE COAST The Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast cycling team will make a pit stop at Whistler Secondary School for a plaque presentation and to rally support for their bike tour. They believe that one child with cancer is one too many.

When: Monday September 22, 7:00 a.m. – 7:45 a.m.

Where: Whistler Secondary School

What: BC RIVERS DAY The Stewardship Pemberton Society will host this celebration that focuses on environmental and recreational aspects of our waterways. There’s a BBQ, silent auction, and chance to explore the underwater monsters of One Mile Lake.

When: Sunday September 28, 11:00 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Where: One Mile Lake Park

What: BARB ELYETT IN CONCERT Contemporary Christian recording artist Barb Eylett is a speaker and award-winning songwriter who has made a name for herself in Canada’s Christian music scene. She has shared stages with Celine Dion, Michael Buble and Checo Tohomaso. $5 minimum donation suggested.

When: Friday October 3, 7:30 p.m.

Where: St. David’s United Church, Pemberton

What: GIANT USED BOOK SALE Drop off book donations of any kind at Nester’s Market, TD Canada Trust, Whistler Public Library or Spring Creek Community School. Proceeds split between libraries at Whistler Secondary, Spring Creek and Myrtle Philip.

When: Saturday October 11, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Where: In front of IGA in the Whistler Marketplace
