Crews have been working almost around the clock to get the new Squamish Adventure Centre ready for the official opening on May 6, at 6 p.m.

The centre is the product of several levels of government funding, and was created to provide a base for tourists and residents to recreational opportunities in the Squamish area.

According to Mayor Ian Sutherland, ÒThe Adventure Centre sets the stage for tremendous growth for SquamishÕs tourism industry and affirms the DistrictÕs position as the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada.

ÒThis facility infers, whether youÕre here for a night or a lifestyle, that Squamish is a community that takes pride in what we do and how we are growing with a qualitative vision of the future.Ó

The centre was partly funded by the Softwood Industry Community Economic Adjustment Initiative, which is distributing funding to 140 resource-based communities that have been hurt by the ongoing softwood lumber dispute between Canada and the U.S.

While the dedication ceremony is this Friday, the centre wonÕt officially open its doors to the public until the summer.
