The fourth annual Whistler Welcome Week will run from Monday, Oct. 30 to Saturday, Nov. 4, with a series of events to orient newcomers to the community and let them know what services are available.
The week will kick off with a pancake brunch on Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Whistler Firehall, put on by the Rotary Club of Whistler Millennium and Whistler Fire Services. The cost is $2.
That evening Westbeach will host a snowboard movie premiere at 7 p.m. at Rainbow Theatre, also for $2.
The Whistler Employment Centre Job Fair runs on Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Telus Whistler Conference Centre, giving employers and potential employees a one-stop shop to hook up.
Whistler-Blackcomb will be hosting a scavenger hunt and barbecue on Thursday, Nov. 2 at noon, meeting at staff housing at Base II.
LUNA (Late and Unique Nighttime Alternatives) will be hosting Moist IV, its annual DJ Pool Party on Friday, Nov. 3 at 9 p.m., at Meadow Park Sports Centre. The cost is $3 for LUNA members and $5 for non-members.
The main event is the fourth annual Jill Ackhurst Community Welcome Dinner, which gets underway at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. Businesses, families and members of the community host tables of newcomers, answering their questions and sharing advice. Last year’s event had over 700 participants, including volunteers, and a similar turnout is expected this year. Whistler Bylaw Services and Tourism Whistler are the main sponsors for the event.
