Drive far enough into Pemberton and it becomes difficult to communicate with the outside world.
Your cell phone cuts out, you can't access wireless Internet service and your only choice for communicating with people is using a satellite phone.
A recent announcement by Telus won't necessarily solve all those problems, but it will increase access to wireless service for valley residents.
The telecommunications company announced November 2 that it is setting up a communications tower at Frontier Street and Camus Street in Pemberton at a cost of $350,000 to meet what it calls a "growing demand" for wireless services in the area. Telus expects the site will add more network capacity to existing 4G wireless services in the Pemberton area between Collins Road, Harrow Road and south to One Mile Lake.
"We know how important wireless services are to Canadians and are investing billions of dollars in bringing it to our customers across the country," Mike Black, Telus's general manager for Sea to Sky communities, said in a news release.
"The investment we have just made in Pemberton increases wireless capacity in the area to ensure excellent connectivity today and into the future as more and more Canadians adopt smartphone 4G wireless devices. The demand for wireless services is exploding and Telus is continuing to make investments in infrastructure and technology to meet this growing demand."
Black also said in the news release that the company is investing $4 million in the Sea to Sky region to enhance its wireless networks, as part of a $670 million effort to expand service across British Columbia.
