Whistler RCMP are warning people to lock their cars, use alarms
if they have them, and leave nothing valuable in sight after a rash of vehicle
smash and grabs.
Police do have a description of one suspect who was seen
Tuesday morning breaking into a car.
“We have had a number of thefts, enough that it is a concern to
us and we decided we needed to get the word out right away,” said RCMP Cst.
Afzeel Yakub.
The suspect in an April 15 incident is described as a Caucasian
female in her early 20s. She has numerous facial piercings, was wearing all
black, and has blonde hair. There is reason to believe that there may be more
than one person involved in these incidents.
The thefts occurred in and around the village with a large
number of them taking place in underground parking lots.
Anyone with information regarding this or any other offence is
asked to contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Crime Stoppers guarantees anonymity and will offer up to $2,000 for information
leading to an arrest.
Snowboarder identified
The RCMP has also identified the Italian snowboarder found
deceased on Blackcomb Mountain at the bottom of a series of cliffs after
heading into an out-of-bounds area near Corona Bowl.
Giancarlo Madella-Amedei, 31, was in Whistler on holiday with
some friends when the accident happened. He was last seen on March 27, and
found the next day.
The incident is still under investigation by various agencies but it appears that he fell over the cliffs after taking a wrong turn while trying to exit safely off the mountain.
