Tourism Whistler announced new appointments and changes to its
organizational structure Thursday.
Karen Goodwin has been appointed director of sales, overseeing
both leisure and group sales. Goodwin’s role is described as leading the
“direction and implementation of Tourism Whistler's sales strategies in
international markets of North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America
in order to increase individual and group travel to the resort.”
As well, Oliver Flaser, the former director of marketing, has
been given a new role as director of partnerships, promotions and events. A
release from Tourism Whistler states: “These three areas have significant
growth opportunities for both the organization and the resort. Oliver's
demonstrated ability to build relationships will position him to secure
strategic alliances with sponsors and corporate partners, and in developing
promotions with manufacturer, retail, airline and corporate partners.”
Flaser will also oversee the day-to-day operations of Events
Whistler, the collaborative effort of the municipality, Whistler-Blackcomb and
Tourism Whistler, “created to attract medium to large-sized third-party and
signature events to Whistler.”
Greg Albrecht, who started work as general manager of Events
Whistler on April 17, is responsible for identifying, attracting and
negotiating third-party events.
Flaser will continue to oversee the marketing services team for
the time being but a new director is being sought. That position will oversee
the advertising, website, collateral and database marketing programs for
Tourism Whistler and whistler.com.
“This new and revised structure will allow us to re-allocate
existing staff to better support key areas of greatest opportunity,” Tourism
Whistler President Barrett Fisher said in a release. “The new team and
structure will play a critical role in supporting our 2006 business plan and
driving results in events, partnerships, promotions and marketing services.”
Tourism Whistler is holding its annual general meeting on Saturday, May 20 at 2 p.m. in the Telus Conference Centre.
