Central reservations moves south of centre

To improve the delivery of their travel services, Tourism Whistler has announced plans to move its Whistler Reservations Experience Department to a Vancouver location by spring of 2002.

"This is a strategic business decision which will greatly strengthen Tourism Whistler’s ability to service the consumer, and in turn, enhance the mechanism of delivering bookings to our membership," says Suzanne Denbak, president and CEO of Tourism Whistler.

"A Vancouver location will provide Tourism Whistler with numerous benefits such as cost effectiveness and increased technological capabilities. These function will be easier to manage in a major city centre, and as well, the new location will provide us a greater pool of staffing resources. All of these efficiencies will tremendously enhance our call centre capability."

Relocating the call centre will also free up space for a planned $22 million renovation to increase the size and practicality of the Whistler Conference Centre.

"While the majority of our Central Reservations Experience team are seasonal employees, we encourage both our seasonal and our long-term, year-round agents, most of whom live in Squamish, to join us in our exciting Vancouver venture," says Denbak.

Once a space is found, Tourism Whistler expects the move to take several months, including the hiring of a call centre manager, and the installation of the technological infrastructure.

The creation of the new office will begin in the next several weeks, with the changeover of the Whistler to Vancouver location to occur by the end of February/March 2002.

Meanwhile, a core Reservations Experience team will remain in the Whistler office managing reservations packaging, group sales, internet reservations and activity bookings.
