Donations now being gobbled up
As the leaves turn yellow and the mountaintops turn white thoughts of winter needs come to mind, and dreams of new equipment dance in many people’s heads.
Thanksgiving weekend is on many people’s calendars, not for turkey but for the Turkey Sales and ski swap that start the official countdown to winter.
But there’s another sale on Thanksgiving weekend that could solve some of your winter needs and help a couple of local libraries.
Used books, magazines, videos and comics are now being accepted at Nesters Market, the Whistler Public Library, TD Canada Trust and the Myrtle Philip Community School for the Thanksgiving used book sale, the second weekend in October. Fiction, non-fiction, hard cover and paperback, self-help, travel and children’s books are all welcome.
"It’s another way of building sustainability, recycling books and magazines instead of throwing them out," said Jane Reid, organizer of the used book sale.
Proceeds from the sale will go to the new Spring Creek Community School library and the Whistler Public Library. Any donations that are deemed suitable for the school library will go directly to the library, which is scheduled to open in November.
