The municipality is asking cyclists to slow down on the Valley Trail when approaching pedestrians, after receiving several complaints from people.
There has also been one reported collision between a cyclist and a pedestrian, resulting in minor injuries.
"A lot of people are out there walking, ambling along, while some people are still riding by like it’s the Tour de France," said Keith Bennett, manager of parks operations.
"Our feeling is if you’re in that much of a hurry you should be using the roads."
According to Bennett, the municipality has received several calls from people saying they had narrow misses with cyclists, or were otherwise startled by the speed and aggressiveness of the riders. None of the riders used bells, whistles, or indicate to the people that they were coming up from behind.
The municipality is considering a speed limit for the Valley Trail next season if the complaints continue.
"Bikes are already banned in the village because cyclists were ripping around the village, being irresponsible and people were getting hurt. We don’t want to discourage people from cycling of course, but this is what’s happening out there and it’s becoming a safety issue," said Bennett.
