Whistler council will receive the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s 2019 Annual Report and Statements of Financial Information (SOFI) at the July 21 council meeting.

This year’s SOFI report shows that payroll costs rose slightly in 2019—from $32,712,568 to $33,110,798—while payments to suppliers rose significantly (from $69,940,003 in 2018 to $82,516,638) last year.

The Community Charter requires that municipalities file the documents annually—though with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting operations, the provincial government has extended this year’s deadline to August 30.

The documents will be made available for public viewing on the municipal website and at municipal hall until August 7, followed by an administrative report to council on August 18.

Council will also consider authorizing a contract worth $506,495 with Alpine Paving for the resort’s 2020 paving work on July 21.

The work includes upgrades to Main Street, Nesters Road and Lorimer Road, the Meadow Park Sports Centre parking lot and portions of the Valley Trail near Lost Lake and Crabapple Drive.

The resolution will also direct staff to work on a partnering agreement with Alpine Paving to “pursue safety improvements, and dust and noise abatement works along the access road into the gravel quarry and asphalt plant tenure areas,” according to a staff report to council.

Also on July 21, council will consider first three readings of the budget amendment bylaw that was first detailed in May: https://www.piquenewsmagazine.com/whistler-news/whistler-council-stays-the-course-on-28-tax-increase-2510525.

The amendment also introduces a new project, which aims to service proposed housing projects in Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2.

The work will be completed over three years, and will include clearing of road allowances as well as installation of storm, sanitary sewer, water main and District Energy System infrastructure.

The project is estimated to cost $5.8 million, though a grant is currently being sought that could fund up to 73 per cent of the project cost.

“The remainder of the expenditure (27 per cent) will ultimately be funded by the developer, but it will be managed and financially backed on an interim basis by the RMOW,” reads a report to council.
