Whistler CSP wins municipal award

The Resort Municipality of Whistler’s Comprehensive Sustainability Plan, a work in progress, has earned an award from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities

The Resort Municipality of Whistler’s Comprehensive Sustainability Plan, a work in progress, has earned an award from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

The RMOW will receive the CH2M HILL Sustainable Community Award in the sustainable community planning/citizen engagement category at the May 16 Council meeting. CH2M HILL is a global environmental firm and the sponsor of the FCM award.

The awards, which were established in 2000, are presented annually for excellence and innovation in the delivery of municipal services that have advanced sustainable community development.

More than 140 citizens have contributed to the development 16 CSP strategies, and 13 partnerships have been signed within the community.

"The municipality shares the award with all the stakeholders and many citizens who helped develop the plan," said Mayor Hugh O’Reilly. "It is a recognition of the resort community’s involvement in planning their future and the commitment we all share toward sustainability."

This is the second time since 2000 that the municipality has received the award. The RMOW won the same award in 2002 for the Whistler. It’s Our Nature initiative to promote sustainability within the community.
