Whistler-based Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) has been named a recipient of the 2010 National Search and Rescue Program Awards of Excellence.
Given for outstanding contributions to search and rescue response and prevention in Canada, ACMG was among four beneficiaries to receive the award Monday evening in Montreal. Other recipients included Richmond, B.C.-based Talon Helicopters owned by Peter Murray.
The Award for Exemplary Service recognizes special and outstanding service to search and rescue provided by an individual or organization, usually over a significant period of time or during a critical event of widespread or national and/or international significance.
The dinner banquet was held in conjunction with SARscene 2010, the annual search and rescue outreach event hosted by the National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS) and co-hosted this year by Quebec's Ministry of Public Safety. The NSS is an autonomous organization embedded in the Department of National Defense and is accountable to the lead minister for search and rescue, who is also the minister of national defense.
