A 23-year-old Whistler man is facing drug trafficking charges after he was apprehended by police in the village this week, the RCMP confirmed.
At about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, officers on patrol in the 4300 block of Village Gate Boulevard noted two males who “appeared to be trying to avoid police,” according to a release. When Mounties spoke with the men, they learned that one of the males had suspected cocaine on him. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
After further investigation on the scene, officers seized a larger quantity of illegal drugs and cash that will result in police recommending a charge of trafficking of a controlled substance to Crown counsel.
The suspect has been released with a promise to appear in court at a later date.
Intoxicated Whistler man arrested on outstanding warrant
A “clearly intoxicated” Whistler man was arrested last week for reportedly breaching the conditions of his probation, police said.
At about 11:15 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, Whistler RCMP officers on foot patrol in the village were flagged down by an employee of a local pub, who said that staff was having difficulty removing the man from the patio after refusing him service.
Police spoke with the 44-year-old man and learned that he had an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with the terms of his probation. He was arrested and detained before appearing in court the following morning.
Pemberton RCMP recover stolen mountain bikes
Pemberton RCMP has recovered a trio of bikes that were reported stolen from a garage earlier this month.
On the morning of Nov. 12, police were tipped off to a break-in that occurred overnight at a garage in the 1400 block of Vine Road. The homeowner told police the bikes had a combined value of $15,000.
A short time later, investigators were able to track down one of the bikes, and the subsequent investigation led to the recovery of the remaining two bikes.
Police remind drivers of icy conditions after single-vehicle crash
Local police are reminding drivers of the icy road conditions after a vehicle slid into a ditch in Pemberton last week.
At about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, Pemberton RCMP was notified that a Toyota 4Runner was in the ditch in the 8700 block of Pemberton Meadows Road. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was equipped with approved winter tires and that the driver had lost control on the icy road. No one was injured in the accident.
“Police want to remind the public that roads are icy and can be hazardous regardless of the vehicle you drive or compliance with winter tires requirements,” a release stated. “Take a few extra minutes to reach your destination, slow down and use caution.”
Winter tires are required on select highways across the province, including the Sea to Sky Highway. An appropriate winter tire is defined as one with either the M+S or mountain/snowflake symbol and in good condition, with a minimum tread depth of 3.5 millimetres.
Help pack a police cruiser and ambulance with food this holiday season
The Whistler RCMP and BC Ambulance Service are teaming up this holiday season to pack a police cruiser and ambulance full of food for those in need.
On Friday, Nov. 30, from 12 to 7 p.m., the community is invited to Nesters Market to participate in the charity drive.
All food will be donated to the Whistler Community Services Society, which operates the Whistler Food Bank. Of particular need at this time are canned fruit and veggies, pasta sauce, healthy kids’ snacks, dried beans, instant noodles, coffee and cereal.
Coffee and hot apple cider will be available for free during the drive, courtesy of Nesters Market.
