Former hotelier Roger Soane is the new president and CEO of Whistler Sport Legacies.

"Roger's depth of experience will help lead Whistler Sport Legacies to achieve our Sport Vision of becoming one of the leading sport centres in Canada," said Jim Godfrey, chair of the board for WSL. "The board is very much looking forward to working with Roger."

Soane, who moved to Whistler several years ago to take on the position as general manager of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, is also chair of the board of Tourism Whistler.

He has been the general manager of the Nita Lake Lodge for the past year.

"Sport has played a big part in my life and helped shape me as a person," said Soane. "I am excited to now be in a position where I can help others achieve their goals in sport, and lead a team to achieve operational excellence and fiscal sustainability.

Soane will begin his new role on Feb. 18, 2013. He replaced Keith Bennett, who retired at the end of 2012.
