Liberal MP Blair Wilson is organizing a one-day summit of
municipal and aboriginal representatives from his West Vancouver-Sunshine
Coast-Sea to Sky Country riding this Friday in Sechelt.
“The Municipal Leaders Summit will bring together mayors,
councillors and First Nations leaders from Powell River to Whistler, something
that has never been done before,” Wilson said in a release. “There is so much
we can learn from each others' experiences by getting together. The insight and
ideas we will share will help us better meet the pressing needs of our
communities.”
The summit will be hosted by the District of Sechelt and held
at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt on Friday, July 14th.Roundtable sessions with the delegates
will address tax revenue sharing, intergovernmental relations, and arts and
culture funding and development.
Delegates are expected from the City of Powell River, the
District of North Vancouver, the District of Sechelt, the District of Squamish,
the District of West Vancouver, the Municipality of Bowen Island, the
Municipality of Lions Bay, the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the Squamish
Lillooet Regional District, the Sunshine Coast Regional District, and the Town
of Gibsons. Mayors in attendance will include Richard Walton (North Vancouver),
Cameron Reid (Sechelt-host), Ian Sutherland (Squamish), Max Wyman (Lions Bay)
and Barry Janyk (Gibsons).
Wilson, chair of the B.C. Caucus of the Liberal Party, brought together municipal representatives from his riding at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities annual meeting, held last month in Montreal.
